One of the 24 hour shops in Kresna along the transit road to Greece. Kotchy's gecko is very numerous in this village, while just 17 km up north it's lacking.

Enormous old platan trees throw their shade over the brooks that stay pleasantly cool. This is just behind our hotel.

Up the famous Krecna Gorge. Here we found the northernmost Zamenis situla, Malpolon monspessulanus, Telescopus fallax, platyceps najadum and Typhlops vermicularis, while there's also still Dolichophis Caspius and Natrix tessellata.

Male green lizards (Lacerta v. viridis) get very colourful here. But this specimen had by far the deepest blue throat of all.

And to our big surprise Ronald found a large catsnake (Telecopus fallax) of nearly 90 cm!
It was basking on a stone wall at daytime just in between twe rainshowers.

It was a highly pigmented specimen with deep black markings. This makes the snake heat up more quickly. These are the northernmost catsnakes after all, living up to the climatologic limits of their area.
