View from the north over the forested hills south of Podgorica. In the background parts of the vegetation covered Lake Skadar are visible.

The shores of Lake Skadar are richly vegetated. The zone bordering open water contains mainly water chestnut (Trapa natans).

The broad transition zone between the lake and the surrounding hills (a typical 'limes divergens') includes large areas with floating vegetation, marshland and willow forest.

Entering Virpazar means for sure meeting the crew of Hotel Pelican. Our hostess promised lots of snakes on our path. All we had to do is to order a boat trip along Lake Skadar.

And off we went on a Pelican boat trip over Lake Skadar. One of the better things to do when it's too hot to go out herping.

During the boat trip across the magnificent Lake Skadar, we went past these pygmy cormorants. But nothing of the promised snakes.

Arjan and Ben at the end of another fulfilling day. Virpazar offers very nice terraces.

Dark form of sharp-snouted lizard. Also occurring here in the low land. Close to common wall, Dalmatian wall and green lizards. As long as there are vast rocks.

Like in this picture. Strangely enough cat snakes are rarely photographed at night, while that would actually does most justice to these nocturnal creatures.
