There are only few dirt roads crossing these mountains. We had to leave one of the rented (4WD!) cars near the entrance. The road was just too steep and bumpy.

This old Russian jeep, however, gloriously bounced over the hills, with no troubles at all.

Excitement, caused by the sound of a large snake in the vegetation. It was heard twice at exactly the same spot, and only Guido saw part of its body. It was probably a blunt-nosed viper (Macrovipera lebetina), large specimens of which had previously been reported from this place.

This is how we found dwarf snake (Eirenis modestus). If you turn stones, always place them back in their original position. This saves many lives.

On this trip we found only one collared dwarf snake (Eirenis collaris). In 2009 we found several specimens near Yerevan.
